Senator Gilbert Baker was elected to the State Senate in the fall of 2000. He is currently serving his seventh year. Prior to his election, he served as a teacher, academic advisor, and administrator at the University of Central Arkansas, working there for over 22 years.

Gilbert serves on the boards of Independent Living Services, Habitat for Humanity, Faulkner County Area Agency on Aging, Life Choices Crisis Pregnancy Center, Southern Regional Education Board and the State Workforce Investment Board.

He serves as chair of both the Senate Children and Youth Committee and the Legislative Council Higher Education Sub-Committee. He is a member of the Senate State Agencies, Joint Budget and Education Committees. 

Gilbert enjoys working with people and loves his job.
