Luke Baker's Notes From The Campaign Trail
Dad and I drove to Hot Springs Village for the GOP meeting Tuesday. We met some wonderful folks, and thought the “village” was super cool! I also got to meet a Larry Griffin who is the Chairman. Larry is doing a fantastic job along with many others… From there, we hauled it to the Pulaski County TEA Party “Open Mic” event at the Little Rock Library. It was a great crowd, and we received an enthusiastic response from everyone. It’s amazing to see how fired up people are about this election cycle. There’s no doubt in my mind that we as Arkansans are stepping up to the plate and holding the conservative bat high, preparing for that home run swing this November!
All these trips with my Dad are very exciting. One of my job responsibilities is to make sure we get from point A to point B as efficiently as possible. The secret to our success is a good fuel stop—I don’t mean gas—you’d be shocked at how much coffee the two of us consume in a single trip!
These trips can be rather stressful, but thanks to some strong coffee and the trusty TomTom, we are almost always on time!
I look forward to seeing more of you along the campaign trail!

Gilbert Files Official Paperwork to Run for United States Senate
Gilbert announced today that he has filed the official paperwork to run for the seat currently held by Sen. Blanche Lincoln in the United States Senate.
“Washington is broken and it’s time for new leadership,” Sen. Baker said during a news conference following his filing. “People of Arkansas are tired of Washington leaders who are part of the problem; they want someone who will offer common sense solutions.”
Gilbert believes big government bailouts send the wrong message to hard-working Americans.
“Washington should not be in the business of picking winners and losers,” Gilbert said. “America is based on the principal that if you work hard, take risks, you have the opportunity for financial success.”
Gilbert displayed the “Baker Tarp” to illustrate what a devastating mistake Congress made by passing the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP).
“I bought this tarp at Wal-Mart for $4.88 and I can use it to provide shelter from the elements. It actually provides some value to me,” he said. “Washington’s version of TARP cost American taxpayers $700 billion and it has been a huge failure.”
“Consumers and businesses are still waiting to get loans, home foreclosure rates are at record levels, and unemployment is still at 10%,” Gilbert said. “The businesses that were dubbed as ‘too big to fail’ are now even bigger, not better.”
He plans to take the “Baker Tarp” to every corner of the state, and he will be asking Arkansans, like yourself, to sign on to his message.
Gilbert's message is this: “We need to say NO to government bailouts, balance our federal budget, and be a check and balance to Barack Obama.”
“I have been in this race for six months and I’m confident in our message, money, and momentum to win on May 18th as well as the general election in November!"

Updated: "Twitterview" Recap
Yesterday, Gilbert had the pleasure of participating in his first ever "Twitterview!" A Twitterview is short for a Twitter-Interview.
Scott Inman from KATV, @KATVScott, asked questions to @GilbertBaker on Twitter. Then Gilbert responded to the quesionts with his thoughts in 140 characters or less!
We hope that you enjoyed watching the interview unfold before you on your Twitter homepage. In case you missed it, here is the Twitterview recap:
@KATVScott: Thanks for joining me. First up, when do you plan to file?
@GilbertBaker: I plan to file papers for U.S. Senate Monday morning
@KATVScott: Some changes to the field this week. What are your thoughts on Bill Halter jumping into the Dem primary?
@GilbertBaker: It forces Blanche to show her hand and indicates a lot of discontent with DC out there
@KATVScott: Sen Lincoln says no to public option, now wants insurance available across state lines, Where's she going wrong on healthcare?
@GilbertBaker: She supports massive federal involvement in healthcare. That is ineffective and crushes us with additional debt.
@KATVScott: Speaking of debt. Blue Dogs stole your thunder today with proposal for Balance Budget Amendment. Any chance of passing?
@GilbertBaker: This seems like an election year ploy. Too little, too late. Lincoln must be replaced to assure BBA passage in the senate
@KATVScott: Last check, you were leader in campaign money, but are seriously outpaced by Sen Lincoln. Is there enough money avail to win?
@GilbertBaker: Yes, but the Rep. nom must have a conservative message strong enough to attract necessary $$. Her record can't change with $
@KATVScott: Where does your conservative message differ from the large group of candidates who also want the nomination?
@GilbertBaker: Not connected with DC, oppose bailouts and earmarks, support BBA, NRA endorsed 2008.
@KATVScott: Some viewer questions, now. One about guns. want to know why you didn't vote to pass conceal carry privacy bill?
@GilbertBaker: 100% NRA voting record. We did pass CC privacy law last session. Rep. Stewart sponsored, I voted for it.
@KATVScott: Another viewer asks, if elected, would you work to close border and deport illegals?
@GilbertBaker: Yes.The border must be sealed and we must obey existing law, ie deport those here illegally. NO! to amnesty.
@KATVScott: Last question. You told me last time we talked you are a DC outsider. How can you promise not to become DC insider once there?
@GilbertBaker: I'm going to live in Arkansas, I'm self limiting to two terms, and NO to earmarks. 3 ways to maintain an independent AR voice
