Gilbert Files Official Paperwork to Run for United States Senate
Gilbert announced today that he has filed the official paperwork to run for the seat currently held by Sen. Blanche Lincoln in the United States Senate.
“Washington is broken and it’s time for new leadership,” Sen. Baker said during a news conference following his filing. “People of Arkansas are tired of Washington leaders who are part of the problem; they want someone who will offer common sense solutions.”
Gilbert believes big government bailouts send the wrong message to hard-working Americans.
“Washington should not be in the business of picking winners and losers,” Gilbert said. “America is based on the principal that if you work hard, take risks, you have the opportunity for financial success.”
Gilbert displayed the “Baker Tarp” to illustrate what a devastating mistake Congress made by passing the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP).
“I bought this tarp at Wal-Mart for $4.88 and I can use it to provide shelter from the elements. It actually provides some value to me,” he said. “Washington’s version of TARP cost American taxpayers $700 billion and it has been a huge failure.”
“Consumers and businesses are still waiting to get loans, home foreclosure rates are at record levels, and unemployment is still at 10%,” Gilbert said. “The businesses that were dubbed as ‘too big to fail’ are now even bigger, not better.”
He plans to take the “Baker Tarp” to every corner of the state, and he will be asking Arkansans, like yourself, to sign on to his message.
Gilbert's message is this: “We need to say NO to government bailouts, balance our federal budget, and be a check and balance to Barack Obama.”
“I have been in this race for six months and I’m confident in our message, money, and momentum to win on May 18th as well as the general election in November!"
